RENDER ENGINE in AutoCAD

Maybe you haven't tried rendering in AutoCAD, but it can give pretty cool results. Since AutoCAD 2007 the well-known Mental Ray render engine is built in AutoCAD. It is the same render engine as in 3ds max (if you do not change it there to even more popular V-Ray). It means, that AutoCAD render capabilities are quite strong, but on the other hand, not so simple to set up.

You must have some special knowledge to fill in right values in right parameter boxes. Therefore, Autodesk was seeking for a solution, that would make life easier for simple users. They came up with a technique using physically-based rendering and it is implemented in AutoCAD 2016. It simulates reality using principles of physics and therefore requires less settings for good results. That is true – it is more simple to use and it gives good results!

But if you want better results, similar to what Mental ray was capable, then you maybe will not be 100% satisfied with new render engine. Mental ray did require more knowledge, but it also offered more choice.

If you want it back in AutoCAD 2016, simply type in the variable RENDERENGINE and set it to 0. When the RENDERENGINE system variable is set to 0, the mental ray rendering engine and workflows are enabled.
That way you can go on rendering as you were used to in previous releases.
Images shown here were all made in plain AutoCAD using Mental Ray render engine.

The reality in my side shows that rendering with 2014 and 2015 was just OK but now under 2016, whatever I do - nothing renders as it should - all is wrong - sometimes too bright images and sometimes totally black images and always the glasses are dark and are not transparent - - -

All I wanted, as default: a real life image as basic setting (without all these many parameters). same image like if you open the window in a sunny day and look outside.

Imagine, if you should setup all these parameters each morning you open your eyes :)
